Tribeca Loft
New York, NY
In Tribeca BA combined three levels of an existing mercantile building and re-imagined the planning to accommodate both social and private living spaces for a growing family. The homeowners, who had previously worked with BA to renovate the original fifth-floor apartment, were able to acquire the apartment above (an open space that had belonged to an artist), and access to the roof, which they raised, giving them more height on the upper floor.
BA relocated the kitchen from the original fifth floor apartment to the sixth floor, making it the locus of family gathering and entertaining. The kitchen is surrounded by the dining and living rooms, as well as a home office that doubles as a guest room, and a bathroom with a sauna. On the fifth floor, BA renovated the existing three bedrooms and bathrooms, and created a fourth for the newest addition to the family.
Windows on the south facade were expanded, and a stairwell that stretches from the entry foyer to the roof brings copius daylight deep into the floorplate. Light wood, whitewashed brick, light metal screening, bring a warm and soft industrial palette to the space.
