A new location of the iconic Upper East Side hot dog joint, the design for Papaya King is rooted in the visual and aesthetic qualities of the original restaurant on 86th Street. Research into the retail architecture of small food purveyors in New York served as a catalyst for the design process, which served to update the Papaya King brand at a new downtown East Village location. A wall mural with vintage photos, new signage, and a communal table made of stalks of bamboo modernize the elements of the New York City classic.
